Comedian Doug Stanhope thrives in non-traditional stand up venues, with his skill for combining the grotesque and brilliant, New Brookland Tavern should be a perfect fit. Â You might remember him from his brief stint co-hosting The Man Show or his excellent appearance on FX’s Louie, but he is so much more than that. On stage, Stanhope is fearless, and amid stories of his depraved lifestyle, his perspective shines through. Stanhope is a veteran comic, who has become one of the most prolific and well-respected in the industry, eschewing the mainstream and the easily offended. His list of credits includes many festivals and awards, but what you need to know is that he has been praised by Louis CK as one of the best stand-up comedians alive today. Two of his specials can be seen on Netflix, including his latest Beer Hall Putsch.
The show will feature local supporting acts Nick Shaheen, Jenn Snyder, and Topher Riddle. There will be an after-party next door at Red Door Tavern, Columbia’s home for stand-up, who is utilizing New Brookland’s space for this show to host the larger crowd.
Tonight (Friday 4/4) doors at 7:00, show at 7:30
Tickets are $25 at the door and available for purchase here.
