All Get Out

Bio-“Loud and personal,” is one of the ways that lead singer/guitarist Nathan Hussey describes ALL GET OUT. Generally when a band is self-described as loud, imagery of guitars propelling distortion and mood over the audience is the resonance to dwell on and personal is not often the conjoined description. Loud has always been the cryptic way to say a band likes to hide behind blankets of fuzz and hard to decipher symbolisms that keep the players of the song at restraining order distance from the audience. With ALL GET OUT nothing is hidden; everything is personal; and loud.

All New Badges

Bio-All-New Badges is made up of members Matt Sookikian, Chase Lucas, Jacob Moore, Brad Owen and Kyle Lucas. The band was formed when Columbia, South Carolina veterans Brad, Kyle and Chase formally of bands Pawnshop, Exit 101 and more recently Cats and Cobras decided to go in a new direction picking up members Jacob and Garrett. They began writing and recording home demos in the Fall of 2009 exploring different sounds, instruments, effects and all around ways of writing songs. The Band eventually decided on a sound that most would classify as Pop/Rock (which most bands shy away from the word Pop, but shouldn’t since it is derived from the word Popular which most all bands strive to be.)
The band combined its vast influences from Butch Walker, Under Oath, Fall Out Boy, Kings of Leon and many more, to create a marketable sound that appeals to the masses without losing their edge.

American Gun

Bio-Over the past five years American Gun has racked up a years’ worth of shows throughout the Southeast, traveling to any dive that will have them and broadcasting their own unique spin on rock and roll while attempting to (and most often succeeding) connect with fans on a personal level. They also have a pretty darn good time themselves in the process of all the madness.

Archer vs Gunman

Bio-”Archer Vs. Gunman play rock and roll for the misty-eyed dreamer in all of us, calling to mind groups like Silkworm and The Hold Steady. It’s music for going out on the town with your best girl when that night might be the last night on earth, or the last night of youth, or both.”

Joe Kendrick, host of WNCW’s Music Mix

Deleveled

Bio-Columbia, South Carolina — on the map thanks to ’90s sensation Hootie and the Blowfish, University of South Carolina Gamecock football and a governor whose infidelity made national headlines in 2009 — is home to another burgeoning sensation: local rock act Deleveled. The band’s recent self-produced CD, “Rock is for Lovers,” is making waves in the Palmetto State’s capital city music scene and posits them for much success in the months to come.

Elonzo

Bio-Elonzo is an independant Americana/Folk Rock band based out of Rock Hill, South Carolina. In the heart of the Carolina Piedmont, they write songs about everyday life: sitting around on the front porch, watching the train go by, loss of loved ones, childhood, their hometown and their dreams. Elonzo’s music represents some of the most classic elements of the Southeastern United States: earnestness, good story-telling, and an awareness of tragedy that never seems too far around the corner.

Steven Fiore

Bio-Songwriter Steven Fiore has been recording music for only four years. Upon taking even a perfunctory listen to his music, however, one might think they were listening to a young Dylan. Both artists have the musical mastery to infuse many different instruments into their music without making it sound jarring or overdone.” -Charleston City Paper

Forces of a Street

Bio-Forces of a Street began as a solo project of guitarist\songwriter Justin Schmidt. Though originally a native of New Jersey, Justin wrote and produced his first album, Solitary Engines, while living in Philadelphia and completed it soon after migrating to South Carolina. Forces of a Street took root in Carolina soon after he connected with the local talents of Nick Fogle (Bass), Dade Driggers (Guitar), and Ben Evans (Drums). The recent addition of Fr. Jones (sound modulation, keys) completes the lineup with an electronic flourish. While currently recording a full-length followup to their Wait and See EP, the group has polished their live act into a distortion-fueled collage of organized noise.

Sarah Hunter

Bio-I’ve been playing the piano since I was seven and singing since I was three. I started writing music during my teens but struggled with the vulnerability and confidence that is required when expressing thoughts and feelings through music. I’ve recently decided to overcome the fear of judgment and rejection of those that hear my music and have been very pleasantly surprised and humbled by the reaction I’ve seen. My purpose in songwriting is to be as genuine as possible; to write about real feelings that people have experienced and can relate to. I want people to feel like they have been there – because we all have. I hope you like it.

Kemp Ridley

Bio-Barely a year old, the enthusiastic kemp ridley seems to already be finding its way into something special. Fronted by the rich, emotive voice of Cayla Fralick, the fivesome rides earnest and genial melodies — not too far removed from the orch-pop of Manchester Orchestra or from Paramore’s tempered alt-rock. But listen to a song like “Small and Quiet,” as the guitars build slowly, surely behind Fralick’s whispered refrain; here’s where shades of later-Superchunk come in, hinting coyly at dissonance, and building tension that moves the songs well beyond the norm. This is clearly a band schooled in dynamics, from post-rock panorama to solo-act insularity.

The Restoration

Bio-The Restoration’s members grew up performing in orchestras, choirs, fiddle groups and rock bands in the small town of Lexington, South Carolina. United in 2008, they’ve used their varied backgrounds as a lens for exploring the music and culture of their native soil, channeling storytelling and regional history through layers of banjo, voice, violin, piano, organ and percussion that fluctuate between tradition and modernity. At the core of this exploration is the band’s desire to preserve and enjoy the rich cultural heritage of the South while taking responsibility to acknowledge the problematic history that created it. Despite this detailed focus on the past, the Restoration’s compositions are not meant to be period reproductions—nor are discussions of history meant to be contained in their original time and place. Instead, the band wishes to see the tradition of Southern music evolve and take part in a living, contemporary voice—one that uses the mistakes of the past as a guide for the present.

Slow Runner

How to write your band’s bio:

Step 1 – Start with information about your early years that nobody really cares about but that you have to put in there because otherwise the bio is thin and it’s completely obvious how unsuccessful you really are.

ex. Slow Runner started in 2003 when singer/songwriter Michael Flynn and multi-instrumentalist Josh Kaler began musically fornicating together after college.

Step 2 – Create a mythos around how your ’sound’ was formed.

ex. One night while walking through the woods Michael and Josh pulled a sword from a stone and the curtains of heaven opened up and they simultaneously realized their musical destiny involved casio, loud drums, and short pop songs about girls.

Step 3 – Puff your chest out and list accomplishments no matter how insignificant they might be.

ex. Michael Flynn almost won the John Lennon Songwriting Scholarship in 2001. Then he did win the Flat Rock Music Festival Songwriting Contest, then he and Kaler made ‘No Disassemble’, formed a full band, and signed a deal with J Records in 2005.

Step 4 – Totally ignore inexplicable gaps in the narrative of the bio.

ex. What happened to our deal with J Records? Shut up. What happened to your mom, that’s the real question. Move along, there’s nothing to see here!

Step 5 – Start name-dropping like you’re trying to get into the v.i.p. room at Tonic on a Friday night. This step is extremely important.

ex. Slow Runner has toured with folks like Josh Ritter, The Damnwells, Say Anything, Built to Spill, Gomez, The Avett Brothers, and Evan Dando, as well as had their music featured on shows like Greys Anatomy and One Tree Hill.

Step 5b (optional) – If you’ve gotten any press, sprinkle some of that in for additional legitimacy.

ex. Paste Magazine names Slow Runner one of 25 bands worth watching due to the “sonic atmosphere — elegant, corroded, and lurking about … Slow Runner is the rare band that can mourn and bewail, then hope and ramble on, all with one hand on the blip-and-bloop button for good measure.”

ex. “..set to do for geek-rock what Zach Braff did for television sitcoms– re-define ultra cool.” –blogcritics.org

ex. …”at first listen makes you summon that Shazam app on your iPhone and ask, ‘Who’s that?’” –Huffington Post

Step 6 – Mention the new guys.

ex. Michael and Josh are now lucky enough to be playing with Jonathan Gray (formerly of Jump Little Children) on bass and Scott Baumil (formerly of The Young Republicans) on guitar.

[notice the extra name-dropping I snuck in there with parenthesis? Bonus points!]

Step 7 – Mention the new product you’re trying to shove down people’s ears. Make it sound badass.

ex. With their new ep Ghost Rendition, Slow Runner takes yet another exciting detour into fresh sonic territory. Stuffed with orchestras and electronics, Ghost Rendition sounds like Michael and Josh plugged a USB cable into Darth Vader’s chest and recorded his dreams. Welcome to Slow Runner, v4.0.

Do all that, mix it up, sprinkle some basil on top, BAM! You’ve got a bio. See how easy that is?
