My dreams for SC came true in NC last week. Governor Roy Cooper announced the establishment of the North Carolina Music Office within the N.C. Department of Natural and Cultural Resources. The new office will promote and celebrate NC’s music and musicians, focus on economic development, and attract music industry investments. The initiative, revealed on Make Music Day, aligns NC with states like Texas, Louisiana, and Tennessee, which have state-supported music offices. “North Carolina’s vibrant music industry drives economic growth and supports nearly 45,000 jobs,” said Governor Cooper. The office will collaborate with various state agencies to develop a comprehensive music strategy, bolstering the state’s rich musical heritage.
Meanwhile, in SC…
Late night finds
Do you have a box filled with vintage band tees stowed away? A dusty old Vans box filled with music memorabilia? Maybe your tees made it to a local vintage dealer or a bag of donated clothes found its way to Ebay. Go to any thrift store and you’ll learn, where one person sees trash, another sees profit.
Three Rivers Music Festival y2K edition – $9
- Possibly the worst t-shirt design I’ve ever seen. So bad it could end a festival. With the recent talk of a revival, we’ll soon take a look back at the multi day fest that brought everyone from Peter Frampton, The Gap Band, and Ludacris to Columbia.
Country Music Nights – $17.99
- Not sure what’s going on here, but it’s almost an AI type design, but from 1992. Way ahead of its time.
Hootie and the Blowfish “Small Talk Johnson” tour tees – $164
- The No Doubt effect, but with Darius. I can’t believe the boys weren’t featured as well, but love the double Darius.
Toro y Moi x Braindead Collabo – $108
- This will take a few years before it comes back into style, but if you wanna flex your bicoastal cred here in SC, you can wear this to The Clock of Berea and they’ll think you’re straight off the plane from SoCal.
Hootie and the Blowfish “Small Talk Johnson” tour tee – $65
- An iconic style. Simple, effective, even a smidge hardcore.
Stretch Arm Strong 2K era tee – $50
Simple and effective one color print. Easily recognizable throughout the Southeast in the 80s.
49 REASONS “Midnite Snacks” VINYL 7″ – $28
The era of the punk 7 inch vinyls was a special one.

- 500 million Live Nation/Ticketmaster users data was breached and went for sale on the dark web. Maybe it’s because this has become so common, or maybe it was swept under the rug, but I missed this news at the beginning of June. Add it to the list of problems for the ticket and booking industry monopoly.
- The Carolina Country Music Festival in Myrtle Beach produced 83 tons of trash. That’s 13 elephants or 14 school buses worth. Don’t fret! 14,000 aluminum cans were recycled in an initiative between SC Firefighters the Medical University of SC Children’s Hospital.
- Brice Smith, founder of InvestiNet, is creating Poe Mill Music, a 5,300-square-foot facility with a 100-person concert hall, state-of-the-art recording studio, and podcasting room. Opening by 2025, the venue aims to foster Greenville’s music scene, hosting weekly concerts, trivia, and open mic nights.
