So I am off to New York next week to cover CMJ, one of the biggest festivals I’ve ever heard of, and this week I’m going to preview some artists who I’m going to be seeing there. There are 1000+ artists playing so I’m literally not even going to scrape the surface but whatever.
Caged Animals are a band I just recently discovered when sorting through the hefty CMJ lineup. I decided to check them out because they’re playing a show with Metronomy and Class Actress, one of the shows I’m most excited for in New York. They’ve got a sound that is reminiscent of Twin Shadow but kind of completely different. They use a lot of electronic instruments, especially during the song Piles of $$$ in which the singer autotunes his voice. Sometimes during their album Eat Their Own I am unsure of whether the song is a joke or not, but that’s not a band thing. Some bands take themselves too seriously these days and you can tell that Caged Animals are out to have a good time. They have a huge range of styles in this album, from doo-wop to pure catchy music at it’s finest. I’m sure their live show is going to be very impressive and fun.
This is when and where they’re playing at CMJ:
10/18 – The Delancey, The Deli Mag Showcase, 11:45 p.m.
10/19Â – Fat Baby, The Great Escape Showcase,
10/20 – Music Hall of Williamsburg: Metronomy / Class Actress 9:00 p.m.
10/21 - Bowery Electric, Save Alternative Party, 5:00 p.m.
10/21 – YVYNYL Party #MEGABLAAG (Caged Animals DJ Set)
