SC Music Guide Presents Locally Grown on the Green

SC Music Guide

Facebook Event

SceneSC and South Carolina Music Guide share some similar goals, to become millionaires and to do our part in sharing some of the music made here in SC. Some days I think it would be easier to become a millionaire than to get people to listen to local music, but still we try. To celebrate their first year of existence SC Music Guide not only got a facelift on the web, but they are hosting a showcase with some of SC’s finest bands.

They are calling the party “Locally Grown on the Green” and are teaming up with Awendaw Green and King City Records, who are both huge supporters of the greater Charleston music community. The lineup heavily favors Charleston but includes two Columbia bands, The Mary Chasers, and The Black Iron Gathering. Headlining the night is The Dubious Battles, a supergroup of SC songwriters made up of Luke Cunningham (Luke Cunningham Band), Ryan Bonner (Ryan Bonner and the Dearly Beloved), and Tyler Mechem (Crowfield). The three songwriters first came together in late 2011 on the How The Other Half Gives Tour, where they played 13 dates donating proceeds to local charities and donating their time to a worthy local cause in each city.

Setting the stage for The Dubious Battles are Clemson grads The Tarlatans, who after moving to Charleston last year have firmly cemented themselves as a staple of that music scene. Their influences seem to range from the high energy and sweet harmonies of the Avett Brothers to the classic cool of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. Damn those are some big shoes to fill.

Rounding out the lineup is Charleston’s Bear Meat, local Awendaw resident/Free Times Best of Columbia 2013 solo artist/legend Danielle Howle, and Shannon Vogt (if you’re reading you still owe us an acoustic session!). Tyler Boone will represent King City Records playing just a week after his date opening for Hootie and The Blowfish at their annual Homegrown concert at Family Circle Cup in Charleston, SC.
