Dietrich Gunther first came across Gang of Youths last summer while he was in Denver and quickly fell for the band. The Australian band’s popularity in the States is still catching up to their popularity at home, but that seems to be gaining in speed. Uproxx critic Steven Hyden called them the best rock band you haven’t heard of yet and Rolling Stone just named them as one of the 30 best at SXSW this year. After their show in Denver last year Gunther caught up with vocalist Dave Le’aupepe, and this time around was able to grab some shots at their shows in Atlanta and Nashville.
Gang of Youths are known for their passionate performances, something that’s almost always noted in anything written about the band. For these photos he worked to represent that. Gunther said “I wanted these pictures I took to hopefully represent who they are as a group and how they want to world to know them.” Later this week we’ll take a deeper look into Gunther’s photography as we interviewed him and go beyond these photos and his Tom Angst photos.
